Prince Bandar bin Sultan bin Abdul Aziz, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the U.S., affirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to work for progress and peace in the Middle East alongside the international community.
The Saudi Ambassador was speaking on an address by the Head of Foreign Relations Committee at the U.S. Senate, Senator Richard Lugar (Rep./Indiana), at the Brooking Institute in Washington under the title “New Partnership with the Greater Middle East, Anti-Terrorism and Peace-Building.” Prince Bandar bin Sultan lauded Lugar’s views on the Middle East.
The Ambassador said: “Middle East countries know that there is a need to adopt reforms, but, as Lugar stated, these reforms can not be permanent if they are imposed from abroad. Lugar explained the broad outlines of a long-term strategy for international cooperation to facilitate and enhance reforms and development in the Arab world. The international community should make the required efforts in the Middle East to assist these countries in establishing their priorities for the new millennium.
