Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal on Monday said that the document presented by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Syria, which was approved at the Cairo meeting, is in a ‘healthy and good condition’.
In a press statement following a meeting on Monday with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, Prince Saud said that some proposals presented by Arab countries during the meeting of Arab Foreign Ministers in Tunis to enhance the document have been accepted.
He reiterated the keenness of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to participate in Arab summits, and said: “Let us put aside what happened in Tunis and look forward to resolutions that will activate Arab solidarity and cooperation in the international arena, particularly towards a Palestinian peace settlement and improvement of the situation in Iraq.”
Prince Saud stressed the importance of convening the Arab Summit, saying that current circumstances make it necessary to hold the summit as soon as possible.
Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmad Maher denied reports stating that 14 April is the established date for the Arab Summit, saying that Arab leaders will select a suitable date. He noted that no Arab country supports cancellation of the summit meetings.
Maher said that the meeting of Prince Saud Al-Faisal with President Mubarak had focused on means to broaden the scope of consultation among Arab parties.
Prince Saud Al-Faisal left Cairo this afternoon, following his short visit to Egypt. He was seen off at Cairo’s International Airport by a number of senior officials.
