29Mar2004 Saudi business delegation to visit Germany

Jeddah, 29th March 2004

A Saudi business delegation comprising delegates of 35 companies is to visit Germany in May, according to Omar Hamza, an officer with the German Foreign Trade Organization. Chairman of the Council of Saudi Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CSCCI) Abdul Rahman Al-Jeraisy will lead the delegation.

The delegation will visit Hanover’s Chamber of Commerce, then the German-Arab Forum in Berlin, where the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (SAGIA) will conduct a workshop on investment opportunities in Saudi Arabia, according to a report published today by Arab News. The delegation will also visit the Volkswagen headquarters of Wolfsburg.

The German-Saudi Arabian Liaison Office for Economic Affairs (GESALO) organized the trip in cooperation with the Council of Saudi Chambers of Commerce and Industry, Hamza said during a meeting with Jeddah Chamber of Commerce officials and businessmen. He said that a German business delegation representing over 25 large companies would visit Riyadh and the Eastern Province in the first week of May.

Peter Martens of the German Foreign Trade Organisation said that the meeting was to bring Saudi and German businessmen together to exchange ideas, and would now be convened two or three times a year.

“The Arab world, particularly Saudi Arabia, has greater potential economic growth than most other markets. Germany believes in participating in economic growth by establishing strategic partnerships,” Martens said. He noted that between January and October last year the volume of Saudi exports to Germany increased by 14.8% from the same period of the previous year - from €6.9 billion to €7.9 billion, while German exports to the Kingdom declined by about 5% - from €2.8 billion to €2.7 billion.
