21Mar2004 Saudi-Yemeni talks on bilateral cooperation

Sanaa, 21st March 2004

Saudi-Yemeni talks began here on Sunday under the co-chairmanship of Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal and his Yemeni counterpart Dr Abu Bakr Al-Kurbi.

Addressing the inaugural session, Dr Al-Kurbi said that the Kingdom and Yemen would review means of enhancing bilateral relations, particularly for combating terrorism and developing their national economies.

Prince Saud Al-Faisal affirmed the determination of the Saudi and Yemeni leadership to boost bilateral relations. He noted that the region would not accept reform imposed from abroad, but would develop at its own pace, and in accordance with its own values.

Prince Saud said that Arab countries are hoping that international efforts will be focussed on resolving the Palestinian problem and on a genuine economic partnership that leads to the opening of markets and a flow of investments to serve mutual interests. He said that Arab governments are pursuing the path of fruitful reform in a way that preserves the national unity of each Arab country, adding that this vision should be clear to the international community.

Prince Saud pointed out that approval of the proposal for reforming the Arab situation by Arab countries reflects their determination to build strong Arab relations. Prince Saud called for further cooperation among Arab countries in various forums, and said that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Yemen will be working to serve Arab and Muslim causes.
