The Ministry of Health is to establish 19 Diabetes Centres in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Dr Mansour Al-Howasi, Deputy Minister of Health for Executive Affairs, announced yesterday when inaugurating the Eighth Scientific Symposium of the Bangladesh Doctors Group.
The Minister said that the government initiated a program to prevent, treat and manage diabetes, which affects 20% of the population and is affecting increasing numbers of people. “Initially, the centres will be established in 13 principal provinces of the Kingdom to provide medication, health education and regular follow-up care,” Howasi said.
The Minister also said that there are 80 hospitals currently under construction. He highlighted the contribution made by Bangladeshi doctors to health care in the Kingdom and said that negotiations are in progress to revise their salary structure. The Ministry recently recruited 400 doctors from Bangladesh.
