Prince Salman bin Abdul Aziz, the Governor of Riyadh Region, hailed the efforts of Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) to consolidate its position in world markets by supplying quality products.
In an address after inauguration of the new extension of SABIC Industrial Complex for Research and Development yesterday, Prince Salman said: “This complex reflects the commitment of SABIC’s management to develop and modernize its products in line with global technological and marketing developments and ensure its competitiveness in international markets.”
The Governor praised SABIC’s efforts in training and employing young Saudis. 62% of scientists, researchers and technical experts at the Complex are Saudis, according to a report published today by Arab News.
Prince Salman said that the Research and Development Complex had achieved remarkable progress during the past nine years. “Within a short period of time, the Complex has become a centre of advanced research and technology,” he added.
Prince Salman lauded SABIC’s position as a world market leader. According to Muhammad Al-Mady, Deputy Chairman and Managing Director of the corporation, SABIC is 11th in the world's top petrochemical companies. “Our ambition is to achieve greater levels of development and reach an even higher position,” Al-Mady said, adding that SABIC wanted to establish quality-control workshops and laboratories at its industrial complexes. SABIC has already established a central industrial laboratory in Riyadh and technical centres at the Jubail Industrial City, in the United States, Europe and India. “These centres have undergone great development and registered 365 patents around the world,” the Managing Director said.
Prince Saud bin Abdullah bin Thunayan, Chairman of the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu and SABIC’s Board of Directors, spoke about the Centre’s contributions towards improving the quality of SABIC products and resolving technical problems experienced by its companies. He announced plans to open new factories in Jubail and Yanbu. “SABIC will have huge investment projects in Jubail’s second industrial city,” the Chairman said, adding that plans were also underway to establish a major project in Yanbu.
In recognition of Prince Salman’s pioneering role in support of charitable projects, Prince Saud bin Abdullah bin Thunayan announced SABIC’s donations to Prince Salman Charitable Housing Project (SR1 million), Prince Fahd bin Salman Charitable Society for the Care of Kidney Patients (SR1 million) and the Disabled Children’s Association (SR1 million).
