Prince Salman Bin Abdul Aziz, the Governor of Riyadh Region, will inaugurate the five-day “Riyadh International Telecommunications Conference, 2004” on 29 February.
The conference will bring together telecommunication and information technology professionals, technology providers and decision-makers at the King Faisal Conference Hall. Dr Akram Masri, Director of Technical Affairs at the Riyadh Exhibition Centre, said that the conference was organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Telecommunications and Information Technology, the Saudi Communications Authority, and the Saudi Telecom Company (STC). Saudi Research and Publishing Co. (SRPC) is a sponsor of the event.
Dr Masri told Arab News that the conference was taking place at a time when the Kingdom’s telecom sector is experiencing a boom. He said that, while the annual growth rate for land telephone lines stood at 7%, the mobile phone sector had registered a phenomenal growth of 80%.
The conference will be followed by a three-day program of presentations by STC and others in the telecom industry on solutions that address the communication needs of the Kingdom, 60% of whose population is under fifteen.
