The Eastern Province Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EPCCI) established a committee of prominent businesswomen. The twenty-member committee will study the role and growth of businesswomen in the Kingdom, and how to promote their successful contribution.
The committee will be representative and will interact with other relevant bodies to draft proposals and make recommendations.
Abdul Rahman Al-Rashid, President of the EPCCI, who announced the formation of the committee, said that it represents a step forward in developing business in the Kingdom. “Business developments and growth in Saudi Arabia always conform with our Islamic traditions and culture,” he said.
He highlighted efforts of the Saudi government to emphasise the crucial role of Saudi women in all spheres. He said that formation of the committee reflected the full support extended by the business sector to businesswomen in the Kingdom. The committee aims, among other things, to double the participation of women in business and economic affairs and to encourage women to invest in various projects. “Their participation will greatly benefit the national economy,” he explained.
Dr Aisha Al-Mana, a member of the committee, told Arab News that women represent half of all societies and therefore their role in socio-economic activities should not be overlooked. “Formation of the committee is a confirmation of women’s role in the growth of the society,” she said. She thanked the Chamber of Commerce for establishing the committee and giving women a chance to participate in the country’s development.
Dr Amal Al-Taimi, also a member of the committee, said that formation of the committee was “a progressive decision in the right direction,” and that the committee would work as a link between the private sector and female investors and to help open new horizons to businesswomen.
