Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz, the Deputy Premier and Commander of the National Guard, described the Second National Dialogue Conference recently held in the Holy City of Makkah under the title of “Extremism and Moderation: a comprehensive, systematic vision” as embodying the spirit of Islamic and national solidarity and cooperation.
He said that the conference was conducted in an atmosphere of cordiality and mutual respect among expert participants who presented studies addressing the issue of extremism. Crown Prince Abdullah said that the conference produced constructive recommendations that would enhance national unity and the principles of dialogue, moderation and tolerance, affirming the government’s commitment to pursuing the recommendations.
The Crown Prince said that he is looking forward to the forthcoming National Dialogue Conference on “Education and Woman,” which is to be held in Al-Madinah Al-Munawarah, home of the Prophet Mohammed’s mosque and grave.
In addition to the regular dialogue forums that currently take place at King Abdul Aziz Centre for National Dialogue, dialogue is being promoted in other aspects of Saudi society, Crown Prince Abdullah said, praising the principle of dialogue. He also stressed the duty of the Kingdom, as home to the Two Holy Mosques, to espouse the religion of Islam and serve Muslims, in accordance with the teachings of the holy Quran and Sunna (teachings of the Prophet, peace be upon him). He said that the Kingdom will be a Muslim, free country, whose citizens enjoy pride, dignity and security, in which the rights of citizens will be equal.
The Crown Prince said that the Kingdom is pressing ahead on the path of reform, and urged all citizens to cooperate to achieve moderation through a gradual reform process, rather than a rash venture to precipitate and disrupt the smooth development process that is already underway. He warned against all forms of extremism, and reiterated his call for citizens to follow the moderate path of Islam.
