11Jan2004 Tantawi hails Kingdom’s efforts on behalf of Hajj pilgrims

Cairo, 11th January 2004

Dr Mohammed Sayyed Tantawi, Sheikh of the Cairo-based Al-Azhar, highlighted the great efforts being exerted by Saudi officials to enable pilgrims to perform their rituals in comfort and ease.

In a statement to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) following the departure of the first group of Egyptian pilgrims, who left for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia via Suez Seaport on Sunday, Dr Tantawi lauded the great role played by the Kingdom in service of Muslim causes.

He noted that the expansion projects implemented in Makkah and Madinah provide clear evidence of the attention accorded by Saudi officials to pilgrims’ needs.

The Egyptian Minister of Transport and Communications, Eng. Hamdi Al-Shayeb, highlighted the excellent cooperation between Saudi and Egyptian officials to facilitate procedures pertaining to the departure of Egyptian pilgrims for the Kingdom.
