The Saudi government’s ten-year educational development plan will cost over SR96 billion, Al-Watan newspaper reported on Friday, quoting Khalid Bin Dehaish, Undersecretary for Planning and Administrative Development at the Ministry of Education.
The 2004-2014 plan includes the construction of 400 new school buildings per year. Licensing systems for private schools will be upgraded every five years, and these schools will be inspected every four years, in order to ensure ninety-five per cent Saudization of teachers, he said in a report published today by the Saudi Gazette.
Under the plan, four million Saudi male and female students are expected to graduate from general education, and teachers’ performance is expected to improve by ninety-five per cent, he said.
The Ministry of Education is working towards implementation of other new strategies, such as introducing compulsory education up to the intermediate stage, finding jobs for a projected qualitative and quantitative increase in general education, and developing higher education programs to encourage talented students.
