08Jan2004 Saudi Arabia wins Gulf Soccer Cup

Kuwait, 8th January 2004

Saudi Arabia tonight won the 16th Gulf Soccer Cup, after beating Yemen 2 – 0. The Kingdom achieved a total 14 points, having won matches against UAE, Bahrain, Oman and Yemen and drawn against Qatar and Kuwait.

Yassir Al-Gahtani, who was chosen as best player of the match against Yemen, scored the two goals of the match, in the eighth and thirty-first minutes of the first half.

Prince Sultan bin Fahd bin Abdul Aziz, the President of Youth Welfare, and his deputy, Prince Nawaf bin Faisal bin Fahd, in separate statements from Kuwait and Riyadh respectively, expressed their happiness with the victory of the Saudi team. They forwarded their congratulations to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz, Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz, the Deputy Premier and Commander of the National Guard, and Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz, the Second Deputy Premier, Minister of Defence and Aviation and Inspector General. Prince Sultan praised the Saudi players’ performance.
