05Jan2004 Al-Bireik stresses Kingdom’s keenness to assist earthquake victims

Riyadh, 5th January 2004

The Saudi Ambassador to Iran, Dr Nasser Al-Bireik, reiterated the keenness of the Saudi leadership to extend all possible assistance to victims of the recent earthquake in the Iranian city of Bam.

He noted that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has, thus far, sent sixteen planes to Iran carrying relief assistance, including blankets, tents, food and medical supplies. “Iranian officials have expressed great appreciation for the attention accorded by Saudi officials to the Iranian earthquake victims,” he said in a statement on Riyadh Radio.

Al-Bireik said that the Saudi field hospital, currently operating in Bam, has been extending requisite medical services to those who sustained injuries.
