10Nov2003 OIC condemns Riyadh bombing

Jeddah, 10th November 2003

The Secretary General of the Jeddah-based Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), Dr Abdel-Wahid Belqaziz condemned the bombing attack on a residential complex in Riyadh on Saturday night, which killed a number of innocent civilians.

Dr Belqaziz said that the bombing was a “vicious act of terrorism, which totally violates the teachings of religions and human values”.

“These terrorists violated the sanctity of the Holy Month of Ramadan, and have killed and destroyed the lives of innocent civilians,” he said, noting that such acts defame Islam and Muslims worldwide.

Dr Belqaziz urged Ulema (religious scholars) to condemn terrorist acts and ideology, and offered his condolences to families of the victims.

The International Commission for Memorisation of the Holy Quran, an affiliate of the Makkah-based Muslim World League (MWL), denounced the bombing, and said Islam had nothing to do with such terrorist activities. The Commission urged Muslims to adhere to the teachings of the Holy Quran and Sunnah (the Prophet’s teachings) and to unify their ranks.
