Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz today chaired the Cabinet’s weekly meeting at Al-Yamamah Palace in Riyadh.
At the outset of the meeting, the King briefed the Council of Ministers on talks and consultations held by himself and Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz, Deputy Premier and Commander of the National Guard, with leaders of Arab, Islamic, and other friendly countries. The talks focused on recent developments in the region, notably the continuing Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people. The King stressed the importance of promoting a united stance against the Israeli aggression in the international community, to work towards implementation of the peace process in accordance with resolutions of international legitimacy and the agreements signed by Israeli and Palestinian sides.
In a statement to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) following the meeting, Dr Fouad bin Abdulsalam Al-Farsy, the Minister of Culture and Information, said that the Cabinet discussed the situation in Iraq, and how to promote a return of security, stability and prosperity in the country, whilst preserving its unity, territorial integrity, sovereignty and independent government. The Cabinet expressed regret that no Iraqi representative attended the recently concluded Damascus Conference of Iraq’s neighbouring countries.
The Council then discussed a number of items on its agenda, and issued the following decisions:
The Minister of Foreign Affairs or his deputy is authorized to discuss with the Hungarian side a draft memorandum of understanding on political consultation between the Foreign Ministries of the two countries.
The Council of Ministers extended for a year, effective from 11/9/1424H, allowance of the importation of Palestinian products with exemption from customs tariffs.
The Cabinet approved the appointment of Dr Ahmed bin Homoud bin Ghithayan Al-Rodhan as Director General for Administrative and Financial Affairs at the Interior Ministry, and Dr Mohammed bin Mansour bin Mohammed Al-Omran as Assistant Undersecretary for Female Students and Examination Affairs at the Ministry of Education.
