03Feb2003 SR3 billion project for fireproof tents in Mina

Makkah, 3rd February 2003

The SR3 billion project for fireproof tents implemented by the Kingdom in Mina, for lodging pilgrims during Hajj, is considered one of the most important projects for the comfortable performance of Hajj rituals.

The Ministry of Public Works and Housing implemented the project in three phases.

The tents are spread over an area of 2.5 million square metres. Approximately 3.88 million meters of fireproof material was used for construction of the tents. These highly advanced, modern tents have been provided with 42,000 air-conditioners, 240,000 electric lamps, and 170,000 fire extinguishing hoses.
