The number of expatriates and their dependants working in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia should be controlled so that it not exceed 20% of the indigenous population over the forthcoming ten years. This stipulation was made by Prince Naif bin Abdul Aziz, Minister of The Interior, who is also Chairman of the Council of Work Force (CWF), which discussed the issue at its latest meeting, it was announced here today.
In a statement, the Secretary General of CWF, Dr Abdulwahid Al-Homaid, said that the quota would be established gradually during a period of ten years. The Minister also stipulated that no single nationality of workers and their dependants could exceed 10% of the expatriate population in the Kingdom. He said that the recommendation submitted to the Chairman of CWF was based on a study of the condition of the Kingdom’s labour market, in light of the government’s strategy to create more job opportunities.
Labour policies, including the new limits, will be reviewed every two years. He added that the Minister has approved, upon recommendations from the CWF, a strategy for the development of human resources in the health sector.
