The Ministry of Hajj has for the first time established special awards for the best media coverage of the annual pilgrimage.
In a report, Al-Jazirah newspaper quoted Dr Abubakr bin Ahmed Bagader, Supervisor of Media and Public Relations at the Ministry, saying that the Saudi newspaper providing the best Hajj coverage will be given a special shield. Cash prizes worth SR10,000 will be given to the best reporter, and SR5,000 will be awarded to the best story and the best photograph. A commemorative shield will be given to the best non-Saudi Arab newspaper providing Hajj coverage.
The prizes will be distributed at a ceremony on 21 February, which will be attended by all media representatives who are covering the Hajj. The Ministry has set up an eight-member jury to select the winners.
