27Jan2003 Saudi Arabia delivers 643 tons of dates to World Food Program

Islamabad, 27th January 2003

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has delivered 643 tons of dates to the World Food Program (WFP) for distribution among the needy people of Afghanistan, said a press release of the Saudi Embassy here today.

The consignment of dates was handed over to the regional office of the WFP in Islamabad in accordance with directives of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz, under the supervision of Saudi Ambassador to Pakistan, Ali Awadh Asseri. The ceremonial presentation of the dates was also attended by Mansour bin Mohammad Al-Eid, a representative of the Saudi Ministry of Finance and National Economy.

This assistance is part of the continuous efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to relieve the suffering of the brotherly Afghan people, and support them in a time of tribulation, Asseri said on the occasion.
