Dammam, Saudi Arabia, 5th January 2003

The Board of Directors of the Federation of Arab Ports on Sunday held a meeting under the chairmanship of Minister of State and President of the Ports Authority, Dr Abdul Aziz Bin Ibrahim Al-Manea.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Al-Manea said that regional and international economic developments, notably the emergence of the World Trade Organization (WTO), technological developments, and the merger of international sea lines have promoted the construction of gigantic vessels. He highlighted the significant role that ports can play in boosting the national economy.

Dr Al-Manea stressed the importance of cooperation between the Federation’s member states to promote improved services at ports, and reiterated the keenness of the Saudi government to support the Federation.

Participants of the two-day meeting are scheduled to review the Federation’s plan for the next two years, the strategy for developing national manpower at ports of Federation member states, and the Federation’s budget for the fiscal year 2003 H.
