04Jan2003 IDB program for Palestinians

The Jiddah-based Islamic Development Bank (IDB) launched a program to meet some of the urgent requirements of the Palestinians.

Dr Ahmed Mohammed Ali, IDB President, said that the IDB was planning to allocate $30 million: $12 million from IDB resources, $11 million from the resources of Al-Aqsa Fund, and $7 million from other fund organisations.

Dr Ali noted that the program is part of the IDB initiative to manage Al-Aqsa and Al-Aqsa Intifada funds.

He said that, in accordance with the program, $20 million would be extended to municipalities and rural councils in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, and $6 million to the program of repairing houses, particularly in refugee camps. Food materials, medical supplies, and some small projects will receive $4 million.
