03Jan2003 Housing projects in Mina Valley to accommodate pilgrims

Makkah, 3rd January 2003

The Ministry of Public Works and Housing has recommended the construction of two-storey buildings in the Mina Valley to accommodate about two million pilgrims.

Habib Zain-ul-Abidin, the Ministry’s Undersecretary told Saudi Gazette that vertical expansion of accommodation was imperative, due to the growing number of pilgrims. A high-level ministerial committee has been formed to oversee this, he said.

He reaffirmed that the rainwater drainage project for Arafat and Muzdalifa will be completed by 22 January. This project includes various networks of different sizes and lengths, and will have open and closed channels; its main aim is to protect pilgrims from the risk of floods.
